Hi, I’m Oregon J. Sinclair—writer, teacher, and relentless daydreamer. If you’ve somehow stumbled upon this blog, welcome! Whether you’re here because you love books, enjoy hearing writers ramble about their craft, or just clicked on the wrong link, I’m glad you found your way here.
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I filled notebooks with stories—some finished, most abandoned midway when a shinier idea grabbed my attention. I wrote because I had to, because the stories in my head weren’t content to stay there. Even now, that feeling hasn’t changed. Writing is still the thing I can’t not do.Writing is how I make sense of the world, how I explore the complexities of identity, love, and survival, and how I carve out space for voices that deserve to be heard.
Why I Write
Growing up, I rarely saw characters like me in books. If they existed at all, they were side characters—background noise in someone else’s story. That leaves an imprint, whether you realize it at the time or not. It tells you, in subtle and not-so-subtle ways, that your existence isn’t worth centering. That your stories aren’t the ones people want to hear.
That's a lie.
I write because I want to shatter that idea. Because I believe stories have power—not just to entertain, but to heal, to challenge, to affirm. I want to write books where people like me aren’t just existing in the margins. I write about messy, complicated people finding their way, because that’s real life. I write about love in all its forms, because love—whether romantic, platonic, or the deep, hard-earned love of found family—is what makes life worth living. I write about grief and joy, loneliness and resilience, because all of those things are wrapped up in what it means to be human. My stories aren’t always tidy, and my characters aren’t always “likable” in the way the world expects. But they are real—at least, as real as fictional people can be. I want my stories to be the kind that make people feel seen, the kind that stay with you long after you’ve closed the book.
What You Can Expect Here
Writing Updates
Right now, I’m in the process of editing and querying my debut novel, OUT, a story about four homeless teens and young adults finding solace and family in each other. It’s about survival, belonging, and making a home wherever you can. I’ll be sharing updates on that process, as well as insights into my next projects.
Bookish Thoughts
I read a lot. Expect deep dives into books I love, thoughts on representation in fiction, and probably the occasional ramble about a story that emotionally destroyed me (in the best way).
Behind-the-scenes Writing Life
The struggles of writing with bipolar disorder and ADHD, the triumphs, the moments of existential dread when I realize I have to rewrite an entire plot thread...you'll get all of it.
Conversations About Identity and Storytelling
I want this to be a space where we talk about what stories mean to us, how they shape us, and why representation matters.
Let's Talk Stories
Enough about me—I want to hear from you, too. What kinds of stories resonate with you? What books have shaped you, stuck with you long after you turned the last page? The best thing about storytelling is that it’s never just a one-way street. Whether you’re a writer, a reader, or just someone who loves a good story, I want to know: What’s the book that made you feel seen? What’s the story you wish existed in the world? Drop a comment below, and let’s talk.
If any of this resonates with you, stick around. Subscribe to my blog for updates, sneak peeks at my work, and maybe even a few surprises. I promise no spam—just good stories, thoughts, and the occasional overuse of em dashes.
This is just the beginning, and I’m excited to have you along for the ride.
Until next time,
Oregon J. Sinclair
